About IFHTSE?

The International Federation for Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering (IFHTSE) is a not-for-profit body incorporated in Switzerland in 1972. Its members are scientific and technological societies and associations (and certain other equivalent bodies having not-for-profit status) around the world with main or significant interest in heat treatment and surface engineering. IFHTSE has Consultancy Status with UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organisation).

What is Thermal Processing?

The use of thermal energy to directly modify the structure of materials in order to add value to final products.

What is Surface Engineering?

The use of a wide range of technologies to directly modify surfaces of products with a view to enhancing their properties.

What is the Global Knowledge Economy?

The new economy is emerging from two defining forces:-
1. Rise in knowledge intensity of individual goods and services
2. Increasing globalisation of economic affairs.

Is this Important?

Patterns of Relative Competitiveness and productivity around the world are changing rapidly. This change is without precedent in the industralised world and cannot be ignored.

What is the Challenge?

Industries, both traditional resource based and new, need to recognise that successful long term growth is contingent upon their ability to compete at a global level.

Who will be Successful?

Those Enterprises which more effectively gather, absorb and utilise knowledge in order to add value to basic and new products to bolster their growth potential.

What is the Mission of the 16th Congress?

To provide a global platform that showcases developments in Technology and Research in the key activities of Thermal Processing and Surface Engineering when being used to elaborately transformed manufactured products.

Who should attend and why?

This conference will be of specific interest to companies, and individuals engaged in the following kinds of industries;-
Steel
Light Metals
Microsystems
Tooling
Heat Treatment
High Energy Surface Engineering
Thermal Spraying
Corrosion
Failure Analysis
NDT
Mining, oil and gas
Environmental research into sustainable
Automotive
Power Generation
Aerospace

The aim of the conference is to attract individuals who are in industries and companies such as those above and ;-

  • who are responsible for decision making,
  • who are working in research and development areas of their companies and organizations
  • who need to understand what is occurring right now in areas of technological change, both in this country and overseas, that will affect their industry sectors and their ability to compete in the global economy
  • who make purchasing decisions about the kinds of equipment and services their organizations and companies need or will need

Sponsorship and Exhibition

There will be an exhibition of sustainable products and materials held in conjunction with the conference. Enquires about booking/securing booths and sponsorship should be addressed to the Conference Secretariat.
