Materials Australia is an independent Licensing Body for the Examination and accreditation of Licenses to persons engaged in the pursuit of Plastics Fusion Welding. Such persons will have successfully completed both Theory and Practical work in any of the range of applicable courses conducted by Registered Training Organizations that are registered with Materials Australia, and that offer courses which are based on National Training package PMB01.
The rationale behind the Regime is predicated on the simple premise that there is a need to raise the professional barrier in terms of standards in training and qualification across Australia in the areas of plastics fusion welding. This is not in any way to denigrate the work conducted by many excellent and experienced Trainers. It is however an acknowledgement that not all are of equal caliber and professionalism.
One Licensing Regime across the various State boundaries has the advantage of facilitating a more uniform and predictable level of qualified personnel who can move with confidence across different States and at the end of the day the whole of the Plastics industry will benefit from such a Licensing Regime.
Registered Training Organizations wishing to join the Materials Australia Licensing Regime can do so by contacting Materials Australia and registering with it. Once registered they will then be able to offer training under the Licensing Regime and Materials Australia will conduct the examinations for their students. This will guarantee that graduates have been assessed by an independent body and will add weight to all RTO's who choose to take part in the Regime.
Over time, Contractors wishing to tender for Jobs will come to recognize that if they actively ensure that their personnel are trained by IMEA registered RTOs, such contractors will be more likely to be successful in tendering for jobs in the Plastics Fusion Welding areas.
NB The IMEA Licensing Regime is now a mandatory prerequisite for persons wishing to be considered for work as plastics fusion welders with the Western Australian Water Corporation.
Materials Australia has an independent Licensing Board comprising experts in the various areas of plastics welding. The Board's role is to assess and approve the examination results (theory & practice) for each candidate who has applied with Materials Australia for Licensing. Upon successful completion of an Materials Australia examined course each candidate receives
Each person will be entered onto the Materials Austrlaia Licensing Database and will accumulate a personal training history as well as details of re -registration dates. This record will provide a transparent and accountable tracking mechanism.
