Room: Quadrangle G026

Crystallography is an underpinning science for the understanding of a wide class of materials. It can be seen as both fundamental science and a tool for designing materials. Semiconductors, metals, oxides, proteins span material groups with most different functional and structural properties. This joint event between the two professional organizations SCANZ (Society of Crystallographers in Australia and New Zealand) and Materials Australia NSW. There will be scientific applications introducing crystallography and selected presentations by a physicist, a metallurgist and a materials chemist.

15:40-16:10         A/Prof Clemens Ulrich
"Multiferroic materials: a comprehensive Raman and neutron scattering approach"
Materials Physicist, Solid State Physics, University of NSW
16:10-16:40 Dr Dhriti Bhattacharyya
Electron Microscopist, Materials Scientist and Crystallographer, ANSTO
16:40-17:10 A/Prof Chris Ling
"Modulated structures in functional materials "
Materials Chemist and Crystallographer,
University of Sydney
  Followed by Afternoon Tea
