CMatP Membership

Accreditation as a CMatP will give you recognition, not only amongst your peers, but within the materials engineering industry at large, as an engineer who maintains professional integrity, keeps up to date with developments in technology and strives for continued personal development.

There are now well over one hundred Certified Materials Professionals who lead activities within Materials Australia. These activities include heading special interest group networks, representation on Standards Australia Committees, and representing Materials Australia at international conferences and society meetings.

  • Should you wish to become a Certified Materials Professional, costs will be as follows:

    Already a Materials Australia Individual Member?

    • You can upgrade via the members only area of the website using the "Upgrade to CMatP" link
    • Once off initial application fee of $50
    • Upgrade fee of $50 to yearly Materials Australia Membership i.e. Increase from $240 per annum standard membership to $290 per annum CMatP membership for as long as the CMatP accreditation is actively held.

CMatP Qualifiers

No Yes


Hold a degree level qualification from a materials related course plus at least four (4) years of relevant post graduate materials experience
Hold a diploma/advanced diploma qualification from a materials related course, plus at least five (5) years relevant post graduate materials experience
Hold a materials related trade (e.g. welding, coating, heat treatment, non-destructive testing, cathodic protection, metallography, etc.) qualification plus at least ten (10) years of relevant materials experience

Hold a PhD or Masters qualification from materials related studies, plus at least three (3) years of relevant post graduate experience
Have no formal qualifications but have extensive industrial experience of at least twelve (12) years proven achievement in self education and in-house training
