MISE 2015 - Materials Innovations in Surface Engineering

One of the premier surface engineering conferences, the international Materials Innovations in Surface Engineering (MISE) conference features a broad range of high quality academic and industrial keynote speakers, papers and presentations. The program will provide delegates in-depth insight into innovative developments and trends throughout the industry, and will give industry representatives, academic institutions and research centres the opportunity to showcase their skills and foster relationships vital for future collaboration.

Surface Engineering

Modification of a material’s surface to improve its performance is applicable to both metallic and non-metallic materials and is of interest to a myriad of sectors in industry, all of which are striving for innovation, lower production costs, improved utilization, and lower downtime. This is particularly so for the supply of advanced manufactured technology and systems into Australia’s mining and energy industries which will soon begin their production phase to capitalise on the major construction investment over the past decade. Surface engineering is a broad topic and includes the application of organic and inorganic coatings, surface modification by heat treatment or chemical treatment or alloying, plating, weld overlays, thermal or cold spraying, to name but a few. 

Resources Industry Research Forum

Join an exciting forum on Research Needs in Resources at the end of Day 1. This forum will bring together a high-powered panel of industry experts who can discuss some of the key materials and surface related issues faced by the resource industries in Queensland and around the world. The purpose of the forum is to highlight industry’s challenges to the research community and explore how to solve some of these problems. Especially important will be how to bring together a network of people from industry, services and research/academia to help formulate coordinated responses to address these industry challenges.

Heat Treatment & Surface Engineering Training Workshop

On Thursday, 26th November, Materials Australia will present a one-day, technical training workshop on heat treatment and its use in surface engineering. This course is designed to be an introduction to the science and engineering of industrial heat treatment and how it has been applied in industry to provide longer life and more durable engineering components for our modern society.

Those who need a deeper understanding in Heat Treatment Principles

Basic metallurgy, critical properties and factors influencing successful heat treatment and surface engineering;
Basic heat treatment processes and surface engineering methodologies, covering basic thermal methods, chemical modifications and surface coatings.


Your paper or slide presentation should be forwarded to  This will be required by 6th November  2015. 

Guidelines will be issued for paper and slide formats. A full paper can be submitted but we will also accept a copy of the power point presentation slides for inclusion in the proceedings.

You can also elect for the academic papers submitted for this conference to be peer reviewed and published in Materials Forum (MF). Please advise the organisers if you would like to take up this option. Publication of MF will occur after the conference
