JULY TECHNICAL PRESENTATION AND DINNER

Monday 13 July 2009

Club Murdoch, Murdoch University

New Polymeric Technology and the Drivers for Development

Graham Carlisle, Technical Sales Engineer, Rezitech Services/ Belzona

Graham began working with heavy duty coatings in 1994 when he worked for a year as a site manager applying glass flake vinyl ester coatings with M&T agencies in South Africa. He moved onto working with the THORTEX polymeric range for a year before ending up serving the Belzona polymeric product range for the last 12 years. He is currently employed with Rezitech Services, the Australian Belzona distributor, as a sales engineer in WA. Graham has been actively involved in corrosion mitigation using heavy duty coatings in all industries and in turn has presented many technical papers at various corrosion conferences held in South Africa. He holds various corrosion related certifications from NACE, the Corrosion Institute of South Africa and is a member of the Australasian Corrosion Association, NACE, SSPC, Corrosion Institute of South Africa and Materials Australia (as of July 2009).

Changes in scheduling and environmental constraints in challenging environments have led to the need for new polymers and surface preparation techniques in order to minimise downtime and environmental hazards.

The presentation will discuss how particular forms of corrosion are responsible for not just the premature but often catastrophic failure of equipment and how the development of new polymer technologies are influenced by the asset owners. In particular, the definition and causes of cavitation, CUI (Corrosion Under Insulation) and splash-zone (Vapour phase) corrosion are discussed. These arduous environments often require novel formulations with a unique rheology and are often designed under request from large corporations. In so saying, the remainder of the presentation will be dedicated to discussing the associated coatings which have been designed to mitigate the aforementioned types of corrosion.

Company Sponsorship opportunities still exist for the Innovations in Wear Management Seminar on Friday 7 August.

The WA Branch of Materials Australia is hosting a timely seminar presenting recent advancements in wear technology, materials developments and wear management innovations that can save industry significant downtime and money. With a strong focus on the resources (mining, minerals, drilling and oil & gas) sectors, the Institute invites sponsorship opportunities for this seminar, being held at Technology Park Bentley. Some Company Sponsorship opportunities are still available.
