The International Conference and Exhibition on Materials and AustCeram 2009 (MA2009)

The International Conference and Exhibition on Materials and AustCeram 2009 (MA2009) will be held on 1-3 July, 2009 in Gold Coast. This the third time that Materials Australia (former Institute of Materials Engineering Australasia) and the Australian Ceramic Society have joined forces to run this biennial conference. MA2009 will bring together leading scientists, technologists and engineers from all the Asia-Pacific countries to discuss contemporary results on discoveries and innovations in the rapidly evolving field of materials science and technology. These topics underpin the existing and emerging materials and processing and will influence our near-term financial impact.

The topics of this conference include:

  • advanced ceramics
  • advanced composites and nanostructured materials
  • automotive materials and their applications
  • biomaterials
  • computer simulation and modeling
  • energy storage materials
  • engineering polymers and blends
  • functional nanopores
  • lightweight alloys
  • thin films and functional materials
  • materials processing and characterisation
  • processing of steels
  • structural integrity and failure
  • surface engineering
  • sustainable materials

A unique feature of the MA2009 conference is the forum on materials-related research centres in Australia. This forum provides an opportunity for these centres to talk about what they are doing and what they have achieved at the scientific and/or applied levels, to exchange ideas among the centres, and to seek potential opportunities for centre-centre collaborations. It also provides an opportunity for these centres to interact with research students and early-career researchers.

Another feature is that the MA2009 conference will also run back to back with the 2009 Light Metals Technology (LMT) Conference that is to organized by CAST Co-operative Research Centre. The LMT conference has been scheduled on 29th June to 1st July, 2009 in a hotel that is close to the venue of MA2009 conference. Registration for combined MAC/LMT will be available.

Update:

The Materials & AusCeram Conference wad held on schedule on the Gold Coast and attended by over 180 participants. Thanks to all who attended and presented. The feedback has been very positive. In particular a highlight of the Conference was the Research Forum held on the Wednesday evening facilitated by our new President Dr George Collins CMP
