Metallurgy of Steel for the Non-Metallurgist

Online

Steel and its alloys are critical to our civilization because of steel's economic impact as well as engineering flexibility. The wide range of capability of steel has made it the fundamental feature of architecture, transportation and lifestyle of the 20th and 21st centuries. It is vital that those involved in iron and steel production, product design, manufacturing, engineering, sales, and construction among other fields, have an understanding of steel, how it behaves and what differentiates it from other alloys and materials. It is also important to understand how steel can be processed to meet specific performance needs through proper melting, refining, casting, forming and finishing technologies.

This course provides essential knowledge to those who do not have a technical background in metallurgical engineering but have a need to understand more about the technical aspects of steel manufacturing, properties and applications.

This is an online interactive course. During this course you will interact with the instructor and possibly other students in the course.

All materials will be presented online, and the course can be taken anywhere that you have an internet connection. You will have 12 months to complete the course from the time you register.
